San Diego Unified’s Extended Learning Opportunities (ELO) department would like to share information about the district’s 2026 summer programs, available to all students currently enrolled in San Diego Unified. Programs include: Summer Morning Academic / Extended School Year (ESY), PrimeTime Summer PM, and PrimeTime Summer Academic Enrichment. When planning this year’s summer programming, the district carefully considered several factors, including reduced funding, grant requirements, attendance data, and school site facility availability due to scheduled construction projects. In previous years, summer programs were offered for “UTK-8” students. However, due to low middle school participation in past Summer Academic / PrimeTime programs and fiscal challenges, we made a data-driven decision to focus programming for TK-6 students.

The following summer programs are funded by the California Department of Education ELOP Grant and our district will offer universal access to SDUSD TK-6 students.
All TK-6 families will receive an email and text notification sent to the primary contact information on file with PowerSchool. The enrollment window opens on Monday, March 23rd, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. PST and closes on Friday, March 27th, 2026 at 4:59 p.m. PST.
6th Grade - Challenger's 6th graders will attend a local elementary school.

- Morning Academic Program/ESY - June 4-July 2, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
- PrimeTime Summer Afternoons (PM) - June 4-July 2, 12:00 - 5:00 PM
- PrimeTime Summer Academic Enrichment - July 6-17 - 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
7th and 8th Grade - Extended School Year (ESY) Special Education Program at Challenger
Services provided to eligible students who have unique needs and require special education and related services in excess of the regular academic year. Families with questions regarding ESY eligibility should reach out to their student’s case manager. PrimeTime is not available.
Challenger ESY: June 4-July 2, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
All programs are closed on Friday, June 19 in honor of the Juneteenth holiday.

Join the ELO Department for parent office hours every Tuesday, from March 3rd, 2026 to June 2nd, 2026. The meetings will be available from 4 - 4:30 p.m. via zoom for support!
